Joel's World Tour
A little bit of Joel will come with us where ever we travel over the next few years. He didn’t get to travel much in his lifetime and this way we feel he got to some of the places he would have loved. So far he is at Glastonbury, Jamaica and Las Vegas.

Glastonbury 2009 ....always there Joel!
Joel at Glastonbury 2000 ^^^^

Miss you so much Joel.. there is such a massive hole in our lives xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Mum and Dad
Journey of the Sorcerer

You had 23 years 9 months and 2 days with us all. So missed. x

xxx Our Joel xxx
Joel, you were so special and unique with your love of hats and quirky clothes, your interest in the paranormal and Sci Fi, your strong opinions on everything, your love of a good discussion and your ability to talk the hide leg off a donkey. As one of your friends said..you had your own unique perspective on life and you enriched our lives by being as you were.

Joel would talk to anyone and make friends with anyone. He wasn't fazed by much and, for a little bloke, neither was he scared of anyone or anything. People were accepted for what they were by Joel and he treated everyone the same...as a friend.
If there is an after life...Joel will be in a friendly pub….puffing on a rollie and drinking Jack Daniels…contemplating all and philosophising with friends. But then if there is something more…..Joel will know the all the answers….to Life the Universe and EVERYTHING! So there won’t be anything left to contemplate! We bet the answer isn't really 42 Joel!

Some things you should know about Joel:
Joel loved Terry Pratchet books...and read them loads even though he was very dysexic and couldn't read properly until he was 13. We have a whole cupboard of them here.
He adored videos/dvds..his tastes were many and varied...Beatles Yellow Submarine was the last one he watched ..at least we found it in his video player...and he had Donny Darko and had all the Indiana Jones films on DVD..as well as Ghosterbusters to name but a few.
He loved Bottom and Red Dwarf but his absolute favorite was Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.

When I was first pregant with Joel in 1981 the orginal TV series came so maybe he heard it in the womb:) The film come out in May 2005 and fittingly the music to this film dominated at Joel's funeral. He also`went' to the Dr Who Theme tune xxxx. Joel was a Dr Who fan...in fact.....he loved all sci fi.
As Joel said of himself on okcubid:
Click here for Joel's okcupid profile I'm really good at explaining what i know, and making a fool outta my self. blowing smoke rings useless tallent but cool.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me I have no idea i will put a quote from a friend here so there is an honest opinion.
My favorite books, movies, music, and foodfarenhight 9/11, any thing by terry pratchett, pink floyd , roling stones. but my music music tasts are very wide.
The six things I could never do withouta good book, ciggarettes, a fine single malt,a joint, my friends, open space.
I spend a lot of time thinking about....i'm not sure if some one says what are you thinking to me i look blank and have no idea although i am sure i think about a lot of stuff.
On a typical Friday night I am working my night out is saturday The most private thing I'm willing to admit here ....I once ran about cardiff city center naked although it was 1AM on Jan 1st 2001 You should message me if you have the answer, or would like the anti-dote
Joel's ashes were scattered in the Pilton Stone Circle on Sat 2nd June 2007. Thanks to all our wonderful familes for supporting us. A special thanks to Joel's great friend Becky and her friend Chris for coming all the way from York!
Our resident hippy, gone from our home but always in our heads and our hearts. We love you and miss you so much son.

We left these Sunflowers at the foot of one of the stones in celebration of the sunshine Joel brought to our lives.
Those of you who go to Glastonbury please think of him. When you stand in the stone circle remember him and raise a glass to him and if you see out of the corner of your eye a bloke with curly, auburn hair, standing no more that 5 foot 5, wearing a brown leather coat, and a hat no matter what the weather, then the magic of Glastonbury has worked and he is there with you.

Also thanks to to security and the people at the site office at the festival for allowing us to do this at such a busy time of year and to everyone on TCF who lit a candle and listened to Greenday - Time of your Life and also you special people from the Virtual Festival site who thought of us and Joel.
Lastly thanks to the butterfly who came to join us for the entire time we were in the circle!!!!!! Joel is there now and there he will remain.

Joel's Death
Joel died in his sleep between the night of Wednesday June 8th and Thursday 9th June 2005. The inquest into Joel's death took place on Thursday June 1st 2006. The cause of death was recorded as Sudden Adult Death as he died of `natural causes' but the actually cause of death was `unascertainable'.
How can the unexplained death of a 23 year old healthy young man ever be described as `natural'? Maybe a more apt way to define it would be `Supernatural'. Joel would have liked that much better.
He was healthy and very happy, especially that day. He had rushed home from work to make sure someone was in to sign for his Glastonbury ticket. The ticket arrived at around 5pm. We only know this as he was chatting on msn to friends saying how ecstatic he was to have them in his hand. His msn named had been changed to `I have my ticket in my hand'. The msn messaging went on until around 7.45pm. The last message to someone was `I am off for a bit...be back later'
THE SPOOKIEST THING!!!
Joel had been at Glasto 2000 and I found this photo on the net the week after we scattered his ashes there (June 15th 2007).

He is in the bottom of the picture right of centre!!!!
This picture seems to have been taken 20 yards from where we scattered his ashes!!!!!

We did wonder whether aliens had maybe taken you (back) Joel and that maybe again you are wondering the universe looking for a body to move into and a family to look after you. That's a lovely thought..you have `moved on' and that you still exist somewhere.

We, his parents, were on a 10-day, 24 year belated honeymoon in St Lucia at the time of his death.
Our middle son Josh was visiting his girlfriend in Didcot. Our youngest son Jack went straight from College to a brand new job that evening delivering pizzas. Jack got home at 1am-ish and heard Joel's TV on. This was normal as Joel was often up very late. Jack went to bed and the next morning was woken up by the phone. It was 11am-ish. It was Grandma inviting the lads to a BBQ at her house later that day.

Jack went to Joel's room to ask if he wanted to go or if he was working late etc. As soon as Jack stepped in the room he knew something was wrong. Joel didn't look right. His TV and laptop were on and Joel was laying across the bed sideways as usual (he was only 5 foot 5 inches) with his head propped up in a position to watch his TV...but he was very still.

Jack tried to get a reaction from Joel but to no avail. He dialled 999. At 18, he coped with pulling Joel on to the floor and carrying out mouth to mouth on his already dead brother; the ambulance arriving and telling him Joel was dead; the police arriving; ringing Josh and telling him .. ringing the family to tell them ...and because the police refused to help him...ringing us in St Lucia and breaking the terrible news to us.

Joel came home to us the day before his funeral. He looked like he was just fast asleep. Joel liked sleeping . We were able to talk to him and say goodbye to our crazy, lazy, lovely, kooky, clever, beautiful, annoying, amazing, irritating, interesting, unique, wonderfully special lad but for once in 23 years 9 months and 2 days he didn't respond back.

We cremated Joel on the Summer Solstice with his Glastonbury tickets in his hand, a pipe with a bit of weed in it, a hat on his head, his open toed sandals and a bag of sweets. Glastonbury 2005 started the following day, we hope he made it......

!!!!!!!!!!!!Forever at the great gig in the sky son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
